Alberta plans to centralize Cytology Lab Services

HSAA launches online petition to change Alberta government's mind.

Sign HSAA Petition NowEdmonton (25 March 2010) - The Alberta government has announced plans to centralize Cytology Lab Services, a move that will see labs in Lethbridge, Red Deer and the University of Alberta either closed or impacted negatively.

Existing services would then be moved to Calgary Lab Services and Edmonton's DynaLIFE Dx.

"This issue is about the health of patients, ensuring the quality and efficiency of lab tests and maintaining local jobs," says the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE).

"An online petition has been launched requesting that the Stelmach government maintain these critical local lab services. Please support your HSAA colleagues by signing this petition, and forwarding it on to family and friends."

HSAA says the personal stories of how these labs "have saved many Albertan women from the ravages of cervical cancer" underscores the need to maintain these local services.

Please visit this webpage and sign the petition.
