B.C. legislature recognizes work of community social services workers

"I’m asking the House to please join me in saying a huge, huge thank you to all the people who give their time, and of their wallets, to make these organizations so great in our communities." — Michelle Mungall, NDP MLA, Nelson-Creston

Victoria (24 March 2016) — March is Community Social Services Awareness Month in B.C., and the provincial legislature has recognized, on a number of occasions this month, the important role community social services (CSS) workers play in our communities.

Declaration passed to formally recognize March as Community Social Services Awareness Month

At the beginning of March, stating that "greater recognition and understanding of the critical role these services play in our communities is needed to ensure their continued accessibility, availability and improvement," the legislature declared the month to be officially recognized as Community Social Services Awareness Month.

On March 17, Michelle Mungall, NDP MLA for Nelson-Creston, also recognized the work of CSS workers from the floor of legislature.

"Well, we all know in this House that it is Community Social Services Awareness Month. Every single one of us has some amazing community social service organizations in our communities — whether it’s early childhood education, child care, employment training, and supporting women fleeing violence. Whatever it is, community social service organizations play an important, integral part in our community," Mungall said.

She continued, "I’m asking the House to please join me in saying a huge, huge thank you to all the people who give their time and of their wallets to make these organizations so great in our communities."
