The government needs to hold to account the people responsible for violating the B.C. Public Service Agency’s own investigation protocols and best practices.
Vancouver (30 June 2015) — The B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) is renewing its call for an independent, third party to conduct a public inquiry into the provincial government's firing of Ministry of health researchers in 2012.
The BCGEU/NUPGE first called for a commission of enquiry on December 1, 2014.
Questions remain unanswered about the firing of government health researchers
“An independent, third party inquiry is the appropriate venue to get to the bottom of what happened,” says BCGEU President Stephanie Smith. “Government clearly overreacted when it suddenly and publicly fired these public service professionals including three of our members.”
The BCGEU/NUPGE believes that key questions remain unanswered: who made the dismissal decisions and what factors were considered.
“The McNeil report tells us that the government’s investigation into its employees’ behavior was improper, non objective and unfair. We need to know who took the decision to fire these employees and for what reason,” says Smith.
