Clancy, Brown re-elected

James Clancy and Larry Brown acclaimed at NUPGE convention in Ottawa this weekend.

Ottawa (15 June 2013) – James Clancy has been re-elected National President and Larry Brown has been re-elected National Secretary-Treasurer of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE). The two leaders were returned unopposed for another three-year term.

“Thank you for the honour of representing you,” said Clancy. “I am proud of the work each and every one of you do, in every region of this country. We have an ambitious agenda ahead of us, and we will continue to rise to every challenge we encounter.”

Larry Brown thanked delegates for their ongoing support. “I am conscious this time around of how much I feel a sense of duty, not just honour, but duty to continue our work. We have seen the future in the streets of Greece, in Portugal, in London and in Wisconsin, one that we are being pushed to accept. I refuse to. And I know if we work together, we are strong enough to resist this race to the bottom.”

Over three hundred delegates gathered in Ottawa from June 14 - June 16 at the NUPGE convention. Members debated and passed resolutions on labour rights, tax fairness, protection of public services and women's equality, to name a few.
