Health authority agreements ratified by NSGEU members

Workers approve contract at three health authorities in Nova Scotia.

Halifax (15 June 2012) - Members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) members who provide clerical services for the South Shore Health Authority, South West Health Authority and Annapolis Valley Health Authority have voted in favour of the tentative agreement.

“This collective agreement was a long time coming,” says Neil McNeil, NSGEU's Health Care Coordinator “This was a difficult round of bargaining and the bargaining committee showed commitment and dedication to achieving the best possible agreement they could for their co-workers. We are glad these talks have been resolved and we are getting right back into the next round of negotiations.”

The renewed collective agreement has a two-year term from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2012.

Other than a one per cent increase for each year of this two-year agreement, the agreement maintains the Transition Support Program (TSP) and contains a number of improvements to provisions such as increased severance in the event of job loss and improvements in weekend and shift premiums.
