HSAA welcomes Calgary cancer centre decision

"As front-line providers of care to cancer patients, our members look forward to being able to provide the level of care that these patients need." — Elisabeth Ballermann, HSAA President

Facility will provide one-stop cancer care for Albertans

"Our members are pleased that the cancer centre will be built on one site instead of two and that the location will be at Foothills," says Elisabeth Ballermann, President of the HSAA, which represents about 23,000 health care professionals, including those who work treating cancer patients.

"We're also pleased that the NDP government has moved quickly to make this decision. Calgarians and other Albertans who go to Calgary for treatment have been kept waiting for far too long for work to start on this much-needed facility," she says.

"As front-line providers of care to cancer patients, our members look forward to being able to provide the level of care that these patients need. People being treated for cancer do not need to travel all over the city to get the help they need. A one-stop cancer facility connected to the Foothills hospital is the right way to go," says Ballermann.
