MGEU members at Victoria Hospital vote to accept new contract

New contract ratified by MGEU/NUPGE members at Victoria Hospital.

Winnipeg (31 Oct. 2014) — Members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) employed as tradespeople at Victoria Hospital ratified a new four-year collective agreement. This contracts covering 17 MGEU/NUPGE members working in the facility.

MGEU/NUPGE members negotiate wage increases and other improvements to contract

The total wage increase is five per cent over the duration of the agreement but is in line with the health care funding mandate of zero per cent in the first two years of the agreement, followed by 2.5 per cent increases in each of the next two years.

Other negotiated highlights include market wage adjustments (effective October 1, 2014 and October 1, 2015) for certain classifications, a long-service step of two per cent for those with at least 20 years of service, as well as increases to the boot and meal allowances.

The MGEU/NUPGE bargaining committee will now contact the employer to have the agreement finalized and signed before distributing it to members. In the meantime, members of the Local are encouraged to update their contact information to ensure they receive a copy of the new contract once it is available.
