N.B. health professionals launch equality campaign

'EQUAL is an iconic word in New Brunswick ... We can make EQUAL/Égalité work for us.' - NBUPPE.

New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees (NBUPPE)Fredericton (10 June 2010) - Two groups within the New Brunswick are teaming up to raise awareness among the public of their contribution to the health care system.

The Equal Partners Campaign is being undertaken by paramedic and specialized health care professionals. The effort is meant to draw attention to the high level of professionalism within the groups and AMONG their health care partners – doctors and nurses across the province.

One of the features of the campaign is a recognition of the need for all professionals to think of themselves as working for a joint employer - the province of New Brunswick.

"In unison, we are engaged in a public relations campaign that complements our (contract) negotiations - negotiations to establish equal treatment for equal partners," says the New Brunswick Union of Public and Private Employees (NBUPPE/NUPGE).

NBUPPE is joining other groups in opposing a two-year wage freeze announced by the province for doctors and nurses. It is also encouraging members to wear EQUAL/Égalité buttons at work.

"EQUAL is an iconic word in New Brunswick - Equal Opportunity, Equal Rights, and Equal Treatment are well recognized values in our communities," says NBUPPE. "We can make EQUAL/Égalité work for us. Wear the EQUAL/Égalité  button proudly and be your best spokesperson for equal treatment."
