New collective agreement for SGEU public service workers

Public service members of SGEU/NUPGE ratify new agreement.

Regina (03 June 2013) – Members of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE) employed in the public service voted in favour of accepting the Memorandum of Agreement negotiated with the provincial government.

Ratification meetings were held in locations throughout the province from May 13 to May 30, 2013.

Difficult bargaining

“It was a difficult and disappointing round of bargaining,” said Barry Nowoselsky, Chair of the bargaining unit.

“The essential services legislation in its present form makes it virtually impossible to have free collective bargaining.”

The collective agreements includes all in-scope employees of executive government and numerous agencies attached to the Ministries.

The SGEU/NUPGE represents more than 10,000 members working in the public service across  the province.
