The four NSGEU/NUPGE locals have been in conciliation. The conciliator filed his report on Tuesday which triggers a 14-day countdown to a legal strike date of 12:01 a.m. on June 6, 2012.

“It is time this employer treated its employees with respect considering what they have put them through with the pay system problems over the past 18 months,” says Joan Jessome, NSGEU President. “Home support workers deserve an offer that respects the work they do. They work everyday traveling in all kinds of conditions from client to client providing the home support services Nova Scotians need in order to remain in their own homes with dignity.”

Outstanding issues include hours of work, travel, wages, and benefits.

There are approximately 500 NSGEU/NUPGE members in all four locals. They provide valuable home support services in a variety of communities throughout Nova Scotia.
