NSGEU members file for conciliation as bargaining slows

Members look forward to progress in bargaining with the assistance of a Ministry conciliation officer.

Halifax (12 April 2013) – After two months of bargaiing by members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) employed by the Chignecto Central Regional School Board, discussions are headed to conciliation.

Negotiations began in February with the union submitting proposals on job security and staffing, but at end of the day in an April 2 bargaining session, the employer presented a final offer which the bargaining committee could not recommend to the membership.

NSGEU/NUPGE has applied for conciliation to the Department of Labour and Advanced Education. Parties to a collective agreement will request the services of a conciliation officer when bargaining has reached an impasse and no further progress can be made toward a new collective agreement.

Further details will be circulated to members in the very near future with further information about the employer’s final offer and the conciliation process.
