NUPGE’s final Pension Basics Webinar on Capital Stewardship on June 10

The fifth in a series of five NUPGE Pension Basics webinars will examine the growing role of social, environmental and governance factors in pension plan investment.

Ottawa (06 June 2016) — The 360,000-member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) will deliver its final one-hour Pension Basics webinar this Friday, June 10, 2016.

Learn more about the growing role of social, environmental and governance factors in pension plan investment

The webinar, entitled Capital Stewardship, is the fifth and final webinar of a five part series.  The webinar series was developed in cooperation with Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), a union-friendly advocacy organization specializing in Canadian pensions and responsible investment.

Pension assets in Canada now exceed $1 trillion. The way this money is invested has significant impacts on retirement security, the wider economy, and the welfare of society. It can also affect the jobs of NUPGE members and other public sector workers. The Capital Stewardship webinar will examine the growing role of social, environmental and governance factors in pension plan investment. NUPGE policies and practices related to the responsible stewardship of pension assets will be described.

Webinars lead by industry experts

The webinar will be moderated by Corinne Carey, the pension and benefits officer with the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE). The three presenters for the webinar will be:

  • Kevin Thomas, Director of Shareholder Engagement with SHARE
  • Mike Grimaldi, Chair of OPTrust, the investment and management arm of the pension plan for members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) employed with or retired from the Ontario government
  • Larry Brown, National Secretary-Treasurer of NUPGE.

The time of the webinar will depend on which time zone a participant lives in.  To find the time of the webinar in your province, click here
