Ontario Liquor Board Employees elect first slate of officers

Vanda Klumper elected division chairperson

Toronto (22 June 2007) - The Liquor Board Employees Division of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) has elected its first new slate of leaders since joining OPSEU two years ago. Previously, the workers were members of the Ontario Liquor Boards Employees' Union (OLBEU).

The division's first province-wide convention, attended by delegates, alternates and observers from across Ontario, elected the following slate of officers: Division Chair Vanda Klumper (Local 165); Division Vice-Chair Denise Davis (Local 378); Secretary-Treasurer Paula Sossi (Local 285); Chair of the Benefits and Pension Committee, Susan Lusty (Local 376); Chair of the Health and Safety Committee, Tracy Vyschaft (Local 377); Chair of the Education and Communications Committee, Jeremy Trainor (Local 378).

“There was a lot of energy in the room,” said Klumper. “You could tell that delegates came to the divisional meeting with one thing in mind – to continue building a powerful, democratic division that can deliver effective representation for our members.”

Klumper said one of the first tasks of the new slate of officers will be to "get our labour-management committees up and running, and give locals the tools to enforce our collective agreement."

"We need to take on issues from health and safety and workplace accommodations to agency stores and the threat of privatization. And we have to start preparing now for our next round of bargaining,” Klumper added.

“The good news is that we are coming out of our first meeting as an OPSEU division as a group of leaders who are committed to making that happen.” NUPGE
