OPSEU hosting forums on the economic crisis

'By working together, we can produce real solutions that will strengthen all of us.'

Cut Me A Slice - A People's Response to the Economic CrisisToronto (10 June 2009) - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) is hosting a series of economic forums across the province to gather advice on dealing with the current economic crisis.

The forums are part of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) campaign - Cut me a slice: A people's response to the economic crisis - to engage Canadians in a serious national dialogue about the current economic crisis.

Town hall meetings and forums are being arranged by NUPGE and its Components across the country to encourage citizens of all political leanings to "stand up and have their collective voices heard."

"We we need your help to ensure our governments turn the page on the failed economic policies of the past," says NUPGE president James Clancy. "There are a number of ways in which you can get involved. Please visit the campaign website and join us in this important grassroots campaign."

OPSEU says the Ontario forums are the result of "unprecedented" challenges posed by the economic crisis, which is affecting communities, families and businesses everywhere.

"By working together, we can produce real solutions that will strengthen all of us," the union says."To that end, OPSEU is hosting community forums across Ontario, where we hope people from all sectors of the local economy can come together to exchange ideas and develop recommendations."

The forums will ask participating panelists and audience members to consider the three key questions:

  • What has been the impact of the economic crisis on the community?
  • What resources do we have in the community to respond to the crisis?
  • What does the community need from business, labour, government and the community/non-governmental sector to stimulate our local economy?

The forums are open to everyone.
