OPSEU launches social services division newsletter

Bringing together nearly 17,000 members who work in developmental services, children’s aid societies, child treatment areas, youth corrections and community agencies.

Toronto (14 Jan. 2011) - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) has started a newsletter to service nearly 17,000 members across the province who belong to its social services division.

"The launching of (this) newsletter is long overdue," the union says, noting that delegates representing all members of the division joined together at a meeting in 2009 to create 'Community DNA' (which stands for developing, networking and advocating).

"We strengthened our connections and solidarity through sharing our stories and our challenges. We resolved to work toward a future in which our membership and the communities we work in thrive and prosper."

The division represents OPSEU members who work in developmental services (Sector 2), Children’s Aid Societies (Sector 4), Youth Corrections (Sector 7), Children’s Treatment (Sector 15) and a newly-created Sector 5 (which represents workers in child care, children and family services, community agencies and legal services).
