Charlottetown (14 May 2009) - An information session on health care acquired infections is scheduled May 20 in Charlottetown and the Prince Edward Island Union of Public Sector Employees (PEIUPSE/NUPGE) is urging members to attend.
The session, scheduled as part of a national tour, will feature Steve Davis, senior research fellow from the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University in Wales.
Davis will talk about acquired infections such as MRSA, VRE and C-difficile and discuss how they are spread and what can be done to stop them.
"This is extremely timely as hospitals have been dealing with this problem for quite some time," the union says. "We encourage our members to attend this most informative session."
Davis' credentials include 25 years of research in the areas of work, employment relations and public sector reform. He has also performed extensive research into the organization of work and employment relations in hospital cleaning and its impact on cleanliness and infection control. Davis is a former research officer for the National Union of Civil and Public Servants in Britain and Public Services International (PSI).
