2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union (SGEU/NUPGE.
Regina (26 Feb. 2013) - On February 21, 1913, a small group of civil servants gathered at the Saskatchewan Legislature to form the Saskatchewan Civil Servants Association.
One hundred years later, the association has evolved into a strong and thriving union of 20,000 members across the province.
“As we embark on our second century as an organization, we look forward to meeting the new challenges facing working families across our province,” said Bob Bymoen, President of the Saskatchwan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE).
“We are grateful for the foresight of our early members to form an association, and are confident that SGEU will continue to play a positive and progressive role in Saskatchewan - advocating for rights and protections for workers and their families, and equality and social justice for all,” added Bymoen.
Celebrations were held across the province to mark this special occasion. Details of other community centennial celebrations taking place throughout the year will be posted on www.sgeu.org upon confirmation of locations and times.
