Sodexo call centre workers ratify contract

Improvements in wages, rest breaks, vacation and personal days.

Vancouver (11 Aug. 2009) - Workers at the Sodexo Peace Arch Call Centre in White Rock have voted to ratify a new contract. The agreement contains a 2.56% general wage hike and a signing bonus for both full-time and part-time workers.

"This is a satisfactory agreement and provides wage increases that our members are happy with," says Darryl Walker, president of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE).

Other improvements were made in employee benefits such as rest breaks, vacation and personal days. The agreement terminates on June 30, 2010. The Sodexo workers schedule other employees for housekeeping services at Lower Mainland hospitals.
