Announced in first throne speech since Greg Selinger replaced Gary Doer as premier.

Winnipeg (2 Dec. 2009) - The government of Manitoba has promised in its first throne speech since Greg Selinger replaced Gary Doer as premier to organize an economic summit next year to chart the province's future financial course.

Read at the opening of a new legislature session, the speech said the summit will bring together business, labour, Aboriginal and local government leaders to deal with issues such as innovation and trade, skills development and investment.

The government also used the speech to outline an ambitious list of other goals, commitments and plans for the coming year. Full details have been posted on the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) website.
