BCGEU and Vancouver Island University ratify five-year collective agreement

The new collective agreement includes a wage increase of at least 5.5 per cent over the life of the contract, local improvements and language that better supports the faculty’s work.

Vancouver (14 April 2015) — Faculty members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) at Vancouver Island University (VIU) and the VIU Board of Governors have both ratified the tentative agreement reached on March 12, 2015. 

Improvements negotiated to contract 

The collective agreement is now in force, with a five-year term running from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2019. 

The new collective agreement includes a wage increase of at least 5.5 per cent over the life of the contract, local improvements and language that better supports the faculty’s work.

BCGEU/NUPGE represents about 330 Vancouver Island University faculty members in Trades and Technology, Adult Basic Education, International Education, The High School at VIU and in Health and Human Services.  

Vancouver Island University (VIU) has about 16,000 full-time and part-time students and operates on four campuses in Nanaimo, Duncan, Powell River and Parksville.
