BCGEU certified worksites receive child care awards

Union represents more than 1,500 workers in over 100 child care centres across the province.

Vancouver (5 May 2010) - Several B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) certifications are among those singled out this year for a Child Care Legacy Award in recognition of more than 40 years of service to British Columbians. The awards were handed out by the B.C. government in recognition of Child Care Month in B.C.

The recognized centres are Acadia Daycare, Little Gosling and St. James Day Care, all in Vancouver. In total, nine child care centres were honoured by the government.

B.C. has more than 5,000 licensed facilities and 10,000 early childhood educators. BCGEU represents more child care workers in B.C. than any other union - more than 1,500 in over 100 centres.
