Canada must not bow to this Caesar from Clamato

Please sign to petition to stop a U.S. beverage company from milking Canada's good name for corporate profits.

Ottawa (25 Aug. 2010) - Did you know there is a bogus campaign afoot to have the Clamato Caesar named the national drink of Canada?

Canadians should say "No to Clamato" and "Down with Caesar!" before this campaign has a chance to get a serious foothold.

No to Clamato! Down with Caesar! Sight the Petition Now!

The reason is that if you mix corporate greed and corporate bullying and stir with phony corporate advertising you get the company behind Mott's Clamato drink.

Mott’s is not a Canadian company and should in no way be associated with our national image. Clamato isn’t even made in Canada — so don’t be fooled by the offensive Mott's campaign to cash in our good Canadian name.

Mott’s Clamato is a brand owned by the Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS) Group — the aggressive multinational that has tried to force a bitter and malicious cocktail of wage and pension cuts on 300 workers at an ultra profitable Mott’s plant in Williamson, N.Y.

As a result, thousands of activists across Canada and the United States have said NO to buying Mott’s products — including Clamato — to show their support for the workers in Williamson.

The workers are represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) and the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).

The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has worked closely with UFCW Canada for many years on a number of campaigns, including rights for farm workers and the drive to organize Wal-Mart workers.

NUPGE is pleased to support this campaign to stop the crass bid by Mott's to milk profits from Canada's national identity. Please click on the image above or the link below and add your name to the petition opposing this campaign.
