HSAA saddened by death of journalist Michelle Lang

'Michelle was a staunch supporter of HSAA and its members.' - Scott Pattison.

Michelle LangEdmonton (7 Jan. 2010) - The Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE) has expressed sadness at the death of Michelle Lang, the Calgary Herald journalist killed along with four Canadian soldiers in a Dec. 30 bomb explosion in Afghanistan.

"Michelle was a staunch supporter of HSAA and its members," says Scott Pattison, the union's communications officer. "She was always keen to listen when I called to propose a story. Michelle was dogged in her pursuit of the truth regarding the Alberta government's ongoing attacks on public health care, and for that all Albertans should be grateful."

HSAA has expressed its condolences to Lang's fiance, family and her colleagues at Canwest News Service. Lang is to be buried in her hometown of Vancouver. A memorial service is planned in Calgary.
