HSAA suppporting Red Deer nursing home rally

Members urged to come to Red Deer City Hall Park at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Red Deer (30 July 2010) - The Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA/NUPGE) is urging members to attend a rally Aug. 10 in Red Deer calling for more long-term nursing care in the province.

"This September the government plans to shut down 216 long-term care beds in Red Deer, even though 230 central Albertans are on a waiting list. Access to a waiting list is not access to health care," the union says.

"It's time to bring all the supporters of Red Deer Nursing Home and Valley Park Manor together to send the message: we need more long-term care!

HSAA says there is limited time to show the government that the people of Red Deer and Central Alberta want to keep these beds open.

"Show your support at the Red Deer City Hall Park. The rally will begin with entertainment and pizza at 4 p.m. Speakers are set to begin at 4:30 p.m., HSAA notes.

"Thousands of petition signatures have been sent in but we know there are even more people who support this cause. Please continue to gather petition signatures, and write your MLA through www.saveourseniorshomes.com. Bring your petition sheets to the rally to add your support."
