James Clancy and Bill Nighy star in Robin Hood Tax video - You can too!

NUPGE National President James Clancy participates in innovative international Robin Hood Tax campaign video launch and encourages you to join, too.

Ottawa (22 Sept. 2011) - James Clancy, National President of the 340,000-member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), joins Bill Nighy and others in supporting a brilliant idea - the Robin Hood Tax. And you can too!

The video is in support of a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT but also commonly referred to as a Robin Hood Tax) which is a tiny tax, a fraction of a percent, on financial transactions that could be used to fund efforts to fight poverty and climate change.

Supporters also think that it would also dampen financial speculation, one of the main drivers of the recession that started in 2008. The tax would not apply to the overwhelming majority of citizens.

So far the Harper Government has not supported the tax despite it being advocated by the French and German governments.

The Robin Hood Tax will be discussed at the upcoming G20 meetings in France and public pressure is needed to convince the Canadian government to stop siding with the banks.
