Manitoba planning new facility for women at risk

Multi-bed shelter for women battling addictions, homelessness or other safety issues.

Winnipeg (12 Aug. 2010) - The Manitoba government plans to build a multi-bed housing facility for women battling addictions, homelessness or other safety issues.

More than $900,000 will be spent on the transitional shelter at the North End Women's Centre in Winnipeg. Plans include six new units with kitchen and laundry facilities, a play area for children and office space.

Heather Leeman, the centre's director, says the facility will address one of the most important needs of at-risk women - "a stable place to live."
