The MGEU Young Members Committee is taking part in the 2015 Winnipeg Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Manitoba and they need help! You can help them to surpass their goal by making a donation to one (or both) of the union's teams.
Winnipeg (09 Jan. 2015) — If you can’t beat the cold, you might as well jump right in with both feet. The Young Members Committee of the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE) is taking that approach to Manitoba’s recent frigid weather by participating next month in the 2015 Winnipeg Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Manitoba.
Last year's MGEU/NUPGE participants raised $2,600 in support of Special Olympics Manitoba
In the committee’s inaugural plunge in 2014, they raised $2,600 for the charity. Committee Chair, Scott Cloney, says they’ve raised their goal to $5,000 this year.
“The committee is really excited to take the plunge again and support the great athletes and programs at Special Olympics Manitoba. Last year was such a great event that we thought ‘let’s do it again’ and maybe set our sights a little higher to raise some more money for a very good cause.”
Cloney and the committee members are asking their fellow MGEU/NUPGE members to help them reach their goal by visiting the donation page and selecting one (or both) of the union's teams listed to make a donation. Committee members will be challenging other MGEU/NUPGE members to take part in the Polar Plunge or to donate $20 to opt out.
Polar Plunge takes place on February 7 in Winnipeg and on February 21 in Brandon
The Winnipeg Polar Plunge takes place February 7 at the Indian Metis Friendship Centre, while the first annual Polar Plunge in Brandon is scheduled for February 21 at Assiniboine Community College.
