MGEU corrections component holding rally June 9

"The number of disturbances and injuries continuing to rise and the risk to corrections staff is at an all-time high.'

Winnipeg (27 May 2010) - With Manitoba correctional institutions bursting at the seams, the number of “disturbances and injuries” continuing to rise and the risk to corrections staff is at an all-time high, says the Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE).

Because of this, members of MGEU's corrections component plan to rally at the legislature on June 9 to make their concerns known to the government and all legislature members.

The rally will begin at the Winnipeg Convention Centre at 1 p.m. with a march to the steps of the legislature beginning at 2:30 p.m.

"All interested MGEU members are encouraged to take part," says MGEU. For more details, including transportation arrangements for rural corrections staff, please contact the MGEU website.
