MGEU members at Canadian Base Operators ratify first agreement

The agreement includes wage increases, improved holiday entitlements, modified hours of work, flex time, a streamlined step-advancement process, and additional personal leave allowances.

Winnipeg (01 May 2019) — Members of Manitoba Government and General Employees' Union (MGEU/NUPGE), who work at Canadian Base Operators Inc., ratified their first contract on April 29.

First contract ratified

Negotiations with the employer began in October 2018. The members of MGEU Local 449 reached a tentative agreement on April 16, but it was rejected by members on March 1. Both sides went back to the bargaining table and reached the new tentative agreement.

The agreement includes wage increases, improved holiday entitlements, modified hours of work, flex time, a streamlined step-advancement process, and additional personal leave allowances.

Based out of Southport in Portage, Local 449 members provide a wide-range of supports — from housekeeping to ice clearing to navigational equipment maintenance, for rescue, firefighting and Canadian defence missions. The Local has 49 members.
