Michael Moore tackles the global meltdown

Capitalism: A Love Story - 'It's about an abusive relationship.'

Ottawa (26 Aug. 2009) - Michael Moore has made a new documentary called Capitalism: A Love Story about the global economic meltdown.

"It's a crime story. But it's also a war story about class warfare," Moore says. "And a vampire movie, with the upper 1% feeding off the rest of us. And, of course, it's also a love story. Only it's about an abusive relationship."

Capitalism: A Love Story - Michael Moore's new documentary movie on the global economic meltdown

The movie, to be featured at the Venice Film Festival in September, will be released in theatres on Oct. 2. Moore says the film differs from his previous documentaries.

"It's not about an individual, like Roger Smith, or a corporation, or even an issue, like health care. This is the big enchilada. This is about the thing that dominates all our lives — the economy. I made this movie as if it was going to be the last movie I was allowed to make. It's a comedy," he says.

The movie explores the root causes of the global financial collapse while taking a humourous look at the corporate and political shenanigans that ended tragically in what Moore describes as "the biggest robbery in the history of this country - the massive transfer of U.S. taxpayer money to private financial institutions."
