More workers vote to join OPSEU

OPSEU/NUPGE welcome long term care and IT workers.

Toronto (30 April 2013) – Workers continue to choose the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) as their union.

Golden Years Nursing Home staff join union

Workers at Golden Years Nursing Home (Cambridge) Inc. are the most recent to join OPSEU/NUPGE after a vote held April 25.

Golden Years is a nursing home with 88 beds and a retirement home with 35 residents. Staff provide nursing, attendant care, dietary, housekeeping and maintenance to the seniors at this facility. These 131 new members are a strong addition to the union's long term care sector.

OPSEU/NUPGE proud to welcome MSSA

On April 25, OPSEU/NUPGE also welcomed workers at the Media Support Specialists Association (MSSA) as new members. The MSSA is an independent union of information technology specialists at the Peel District School Board whose members officially voted to merge with OPSEU/NUPGE.

Workers at the former Association include graphics designers, media support specialists and technology support specialists.

OPSEU/NUPGE: fastest growing union

OPSEU President Smokey Thomas says this merger shows why OPSEU/NUPGE is Ontario's fastest-growing union. "This Association wanted to increase its strength and bargaining power, and unanimously chose to come to OPSEU," Thomas said.
