A name change for HOOPP

The full name is now the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan

Toronto (26 April 2010) – The "H" in HOOPP is changing to Healthcare (from Hospitals), and the full name is now the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan. This new name is more reflective of the reality of Ontario healthcare today. Increasingly, health services are moving into the community in organizations such as Family Health Teams, Community Health Centres, and Nurse-Practitioner-Led Clinics.

HOOPP is one of the biggest and most respected pension plans in the country and is an industry leader among multi-employer plans. The plan is governed by a Board of Trustees, half of which are appointed by the four unions that represent healthcare unions in the province, including the Ontario Public Service Employees' Union (OPSEU/NUPGE).

HOOP has provided pensions to Ontario's healthcare community since 1960, with over 300 participating employers and more than 250,000 members. HOOPP pays more than $1 billion per year in pension benefits to thousands of retired healthcare workers.
