New Operation Maple video - Stop CETA!

New video by Operation Maple provides people with an introduction to the little talked about free trade agreement that Canadians need to know more about!

Ottawa (29 Oct. 2012) - Operation Maple has produced a video highlighting the Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).  This initiative of the Harper government is not receiving much public attention but its implications should be of concern to all Canadians.

The agreement, currently being negotiated behind closed doors and outside public scrutiny, could dramatically change the way that governments in Canada provide public services or buy goods and services.  It will also effect a wide range of consumer and business practices.

According to Larry Brown, National Secretary-Treasurer of the 340,000 member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), "the more people learn about CETA the more doubts they have about it."

Brown continues that "the promised benefits are obviously wildly overstated and the downsides, from extra costs for drugs to loss of control over government purchasing, are very disturbing. This video contributes to a public debate that the government has refused to allow."
