Niagara casino security guards vote to strike

Management demanding that employees accept a wage freeze.

Niagara Falls (20 April 2009) - Security guards at Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara have voted overwhelmingly to strike if necessary to gain a new contract with their employer.

The 280 guards are members of Local 278 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE). The key issue is wages.

Local president Tony Aston said the employees are looking for cost of living increases but management is demanding a wage freeze, despite having given an increase to non-union employees last year.
