NSGEU celebrates the contributions of Parks and Tourism workers during National Tourism Week

Nova Scotia government celebrates National Tourism Week with job cuts, closing Visitor Centres and privatizing services.

nova scotia visitors information signHalifax (02 June 2015) — The Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) recognizes the contributions of the province's Parks and Tourism workers during the annual National Tourism Week. These workers help promote and maintain Nova Scotia for its residents and for the visitors that travel to the province every year.

Nova Scotia government follows the path of privatization for Parks and Tourism

Unfortunately, government is taking the Nova Scotians out of parks and tourism. They have cut 58 park and tourism positions, closed two Visitor Information Centres and made seven parks self-serve by replacing the staff with yellow phones. They have also privatized Nova Scotia Tourism Agency and hired someone who lives half the year in Ontario to chair the new Corporation.

These cuts will impact the services visitors receive when they visit our province and they will impact the families and rural communities in which people live who rely on these seasonal jobs to make a living.

How you can help!

Tell the government to keep Nova Scotians in provincial parks and tourism services. Tell the Premier good jobs matter to families and communities in Nova Scotia. Email Stephen McNeil today!
