NSGEU forms Civil Service Campaign Committee

'This Committee will be working with staff to design and implement a campaign to protect public services and the jobs of those who deliver them.'

Halifax (2 June 2010) - Members of Nova Scotia's largest public sector union have formed a Civil Service Campaign Committee (CSCC) to deal with the fallout of a planned 10% cut in the province's civil service and to keep the public up to date on ongoing developments.

The Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) says representatives from all 11 of its civil service locals met recently to discuss the impact of the coming cuts on public services and to develop a coordinated response.

"A Civil Service Campaign Committee was formed with a representative from each civil service local," NSGEU reports. "This Committee will be working with staff to design and implement a campaign to protect public services and the jobs of those who deliver them into the future."
