NSGEU members at Cape Breton University reach tentative agreement

Members negotiate improvements to working conditions and benefits plus a 5.25 per cent increase to wage.

Halifax (10 June 2013) – On June 5, a tentative agreement was reached between members of the Nova Scotia Government & General Employees' Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) and the Cape Breton University.

Bargaining committee recommends acceptance

The bargaining committee is recommending acceptance of the tentative agreement, which provides for wage increases of 1.75 per cent, 1.5 per cent and two per cent over a three-year period. The renewed contract also includes improvements to:

  • vacation,
  • shift differential,
  • weekend premium,
  • sick leave,
  • travel and
  • other language improvements.

The package includes a $300.00 signing bonus and an agreement that will ensure that should the total economic increase provided to another unionized group on campus exceed the total economic increase reached in this agreement, the difference will be applied to the August 1, 2014 wage scale.

Ratification votes to take place soon

The union will be sending an information package containing full details of the tentative agreement to each member. A date for the information and voting session will be determined shortly, and provided within the package. Voting will take place during the information session and will be your only opportunity to vote.
