NSGEU members launch annual Sock it to Poverty campaign

Help struggling families across Nova Scotia with donations of warm accessories.

Halifax (20 Nov. 2013) - Members of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE) across the province are collecting new winter hats, scarves, mitts, socks, and financial donations (used to purchase warm accessories in bulk) for those in need until the end of January.

Collection of warm accessories to help those in need

Items collected in a region, remain in that community and will be distributed to organizations by or before the beginning of February.

Members are encouraged to contact their local union President with any donations or to make cash donations. Union locals may also make donations.

NSGEU/NUPGE has a strong history helping communities

Last year, NSGEU/NUPGE, supported by its Human Rights Committee, collected thousands of dollars’ worth of goods during the annual campaign and distributed them to people in need in every region of the province. This year, with the public and support of members, the tradition will continue.

Winter can be a very difficult time for Nova Scotians who are already struggling to make ends meet. On top of high food bills, they also have to cope with rising power and heating bills as the temperatures dip. Help provide these essentials to individuals and families throughout our regions.
