NUPGE launches Pension Basics Webinar Series

Ottawa (02 March 2016) — As part of its ongoing efforts to increase the knowledge base and skill level of Component pension activists, the 360,000-member National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) is launching a series of five one-hour Pension Basics webinars. The webinars will take place on every third Friday, beginning March 18, 2016.

Free pension webinars offered

The webinars are designed for new or potential Component pension trustees, members of Component pension committees, as well as activists and staff who have an interest, but not a strong background, in pensions.  They have been developed in cooperation with the Shareholder Association for Research and Education (SHARE), a union-friendly advocacy organization specializing in Canadian pension and responsible investment.

The topics and dates for the webinars are

  • Canada’s retirement system — Friday, March 18, 2016
  • Plan funding and the role of the actuary — Friday, April 8, 2016
  • Pension investment — Friday, April 29, 2016
  • Pension law — Friday, May 20, 2016
  • Capital stewardship — Friday, June 10, 2016

Opportunity to increase knowledge, skill level and member capacity within the union

Each webinar will feature expert presenters. The webinars will be available online to view at your convenience. NUPGE members who participate in all webinars and complete a self-assessment will receive a certificate of completion.

Participants will need to register for each webinar separately so they receive the proper advanced notifications. Registration must be done online.
