NUPGE working session for income maintenance workers

NUPGE members to discuss a broad range of issues as provincial governments threaten cuts to social programs.

Ottawa (11 April 2012) - Members of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) from the income maintenance sector will gather in Ottawa April 1213, 2012 to discuss a broad range of policy issues and labour relations developments across the country.

The meeting is taking place as Canadians are seeing a dramatic growth in income inequality and a widening gap between the rich and poor in Canada.

As provincial governments look to cut public spending the number of people on social assistance is increasing creating excessive caseloads for income maintenance workers.

Against this backdrop, NUPGE members in the income maintenance sector remain committed to delivering high quality public services.

Other topics to be discussed include health and safety, federal negotiations for the Canada Social Transfer, impact of social media on workers and more.
