PEIUPSE members fighting Alberta wildfires

PEI's forest fighting staff are recognized nationally and helped fight fires in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario last year.

Charlottetown (27 May 2019) — Members of the Prince Edward Island Union of Public Sector Employees (PEIUPSE/NUPGE) have been deployed to Alberta to help battle the wildfires raging across the province.

According to the CBC, the firefighters from PEI are serving as a fire information officer and a strike-force leader. They will be assigned once they arrive in Alberta.

PEI has had some wet conditions this spring and has more rain in the forecast. The majority of fire fighters remain in the province in case conditions change.
