Poll finds Albertans do not accept health care cuts

804 people surveyed across the province in mid-September by NRG Research Group.

Edmonton (8 Oct. 2009) - A poll by NRG Research Group says 61% of Albertans are unwilling to accept cuts to the provincial health care system. An even greater number, 70%, do not believe cuts can be made without impacting the quality of the health care system.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) has announced that it will close 250 beds at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, the province's largest psychiatric hospital, and move patients to beds in community facilities.

The poll of 804 residents was conducted in mid-September and was released by the CBC as part of a series of reports on health care in Alberta. The poll has an accuracy rating within 3.5 percentage points 95% of the time.
