The future of Quebec’s system of CEGEP’s has been under the microscope, and CEGEP workers have been faced with an uncertain future since the start of 2004, when the provincial government said it was considering decentralizing the system.

A government report released in early October recommends decentralization.

Quebec’s CEGEP (Collèges d'enseignement général et professionnel) system is a college system that provides pre-university learning between high school and university. Students proceeding to university must go through two years of CEGEP. Students can opt to take a three-year CEGEP career/technical program, and earn a diploma.
