South Shore Regional School Board contract ratified

Halifax (6 Dec. 2010) - Administrative and support workers employed by the South Shore Regional School Board (SSRSB) have voted 100% to accept a new tentative agreement.

“Negotiating was a long process," says Joan Jessome, president of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union (NSGEU/NUPGE).

"The bargaining committee was cohesive and supportive throughout. We are pleased that we were able to achieve an agreement.”

Highlights include:

  • A three-year agreement from April 1, 2009, to March 31, 2012, with wage increases of 2.9% in the first year, 1% in the second year and 1% in the third year.
  • An increase from 55% to 65% in the employer paid portion of the benefit plan.
  • An additional one week vacation after 30 years of service.
