Delegates gather from across Saskatchewan April 15-17 to debate, vote and strategize.
Saskatoon (1 April 2010) - Standing Together will be the theme of this year's convention of the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU/NUPGE), scheduled April 15-17 in Saskatoon.
Close to 225 delegates are expected to attend the convention from all areas of the province.
James Clancy, president of the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE), will be a featured speaker at the convention.
Clancy will discuss the fallout of the global economic recession on public sector workers in Canada.
He will also talk about the recent decision by the International Labour Organization (ILO) affecting Saskatchewan's new labour laws and steps that must be taken to bring the province into conformity with international labour rights that Canada has pledged at the United Nations to respect.
Delegates will be debating resolutions, participating in union elections and building strategies on privatization and cutbacks.
The theme of the SGEU convention reflects the need for members from all sectors and workplaces to support each other and work together over the coming year.
