Strike vote at B.C. Land Title and Survey Authority

'Our hope is that the employer will now re-engage in productive bargaining discussions. We look forward to resolving this impasse.' - Darryl Walker.

Darryl Walker, president of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE)Vancouver (24 Jan. 2011) - Members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU/NUPGE) who work at the provincial Land Title and Survey Authority (LTSA) have voted 98% to strike if necessary to win a fair contract.

Two key issues remain unresolved - vacation scheduling and wages. LTSA services are the backbone of the real estate and property business in British Columbia.

“This result speaks for itself,” says BCGEU president Darryl Walker.

BCGEU members at LTSA have been in negotiations for a renewed collective agreement since September 2010. Talks broke down in mid-December when the employer walked away from the table saying that discussions had reached a deadlock.

“Our hope is that the employer will now re-engage in productive bargaining discussions. We look forward to resolving this impasse,” says Walker.

The LTSA is a statutory corporation responsible for managing the land title and survey systems throughout the province. Its services are provided primarily to lawyers, public notaries, land surveyors, registry agents and other real estate professionals.

One hundred and sixteen BCGEU members work at LTSA in three offices - located in New Westminster, Kamloops and Victoria.
