In BC, first responders, sheriffs,and correctional officers will no longer have to prove that their mental injury is work-related.

Halifax (03 April 2018) — On March 29, the Liberal McNeil government tabled legislation, Bill No. 107, that will amend the Labour Standards Code to include the right to unpaid leave if a worker or a worker's child/dependent is a victim of domestic violence.

In the last few months, a correctional officer had his finger severed, another had his head stomped on and yet another was assaulted with feces thrown in her face by inmates.
The recpient will be announced at the HSABC’s 2018 Annual Convention being held April 26–28.
