Final text weakens and nullifies protections against work discrimination

In a time when anti-immigration and racist sentiments have been parading as nationalism, we need to recognize how expanded powers in the name of national security can have detrimental effects on our society as a whole.

The pay equity adjustments for the 3 groups will cost $8.4 million over 10 years. The pay increase at the end of the 10 years will result in hourly rates' increases from as low as just over $2 to as high as almost $9 per hour, depending on the classifications.

This bill is the seventh bill on this issue since 2005. All other bills put forward by the opposition or as private members' bills have met incredible resistance and failure in the Senate. Bill C-16 is the first government-sponsored bill.
