H1N1 flu watch - 371 cases reported so far in Ontario

Updates and links are being posted regularly by the Ontario health ministry and by OPSEU.

Toronto (29 May 2009) - The total number of H1N1 flu cases in Ontario was 371 as of this week, the province's ministry of health and long-term care reports.

A 44-year old Toronto man with a chronic pre-existing medical condition passed away on May 23. On May 24 laboratory testing confirmed a positive test for H1N1. It is not clear what role the H1N1 virus played in the case, which is now under investigation by the office of the chief coroner.

The ministry plans to post a clarification document explaining existing guidance for ambulatory care, emergency departments and long-term care.  This document is being developed in response to numerous requests to interpret guidance documents and to explain the rationale behind them.

Updates and links are being posted on the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) website. The latest updates from the government are also available at this ministry web page.
