Town hall forum on "The Rich and the Rest of Us" to be held in Hamilton - Oct. 16

"We are all feeling it, while at the same time a BMO study just reported that a majority of wealthy Canadians are more financially secure and confident than they were before the 2008 recession. I bet on October 16, we'll hear a very different story from our audience."

Ottawa (08 Oct. 2013) - Following the successful town hall forums held in Sudbury and Kingston this year, the All Together Now! campaign will hold its third forum highlighting the problem of growing income inequality in Hamilton, Ontario.

Free public town hall on the causes and solutions to income inequality

The National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) has partnered with various Ontario Social Planning Councils, and six public and private labour unions, to bring the conversation about the need for tax fairness, labour rights, good jobs and quality public services to the forefront. This time around the interactive conversation with community and labour members will be held on October 16 at the Lincoln Alexander Centre in Hamilton. Members of the public are invited to attend.

Ron Charles, a veteran broadcaster will moderate the evening, engaging the audience in a broad discussion about why income inequality is growing, what are the root causes and how we can work together to fix the problem. James Clancy, NUPGE National President will be joined by Deirdre Pike of the Hamilton Social Planning and Research Council as the featured panelists.

Middle and lower income people are struggling but working together in common cause is key

"The more we engage in these community discussions, the more we realize that most of us feel the same way about what is happening," Clancy says. "We are all worried about the growing gap between the rich and the rest of us. We're all worried about the precarious nature of our work and the threats to public services.
